It has been a difficult month losing 2 of our lovely founder members, Sara and Maria and we will really miss them. Its times like this that these treats really help to raise our spirits and this one definately did that.
Six of us met at the train station in Sheffield and boarded the train for Wakefield. From the minute we set off it was non stop chatter; catching up is a big part of the day out.
After a short walk from the station we arrived at the Hepworth Gallery which is a very imposing building in a lovely spot beside the river. Nigel, our guide was there to greet us and we began a very interesting tour of the gallery. Nigel was very knowledgeable and could tell us a great deal of detail about the art and sculptures. There was a lot to see by Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and numerous other artists. There was also an exhibition on at the moment by Lee Miller.
Small folding seats that you could take around with you if you needed to sit during the tour were available and this was very useful to have.
Following the tour we had a reserved table in the very nice gallery cafe. We were all pleased to sit down, have a lovely meal, drink and relax. We all had a good catch up and plenty of laughs. We had a quick look around the well stocked gift shop which had some really unusual gifts etc.
It was soon time to catch the train back to Sheffield and we all agreed we had a lovely time.
Special thanks go to Carolyn for organising the tour etc and to all of the very helpful employees at the gallery and within the cafe.
Next month we will be going to Fusion and we hope to see you there…
