For this month’s treat we met at St Luke’s Clifford House, which is a beautiful building and we had a lovely private area to ourselves.
To kick off, there was a selection of biscuits, chocolate treats and Buck’s Fizz, kindly donated to us by Sainsbury’s. There was also coffee and tea available throughout the day.
Once we were all settled and refreshed, Cindy Woodward of The Beauty Retreat Organic Day Spa talked to us all about the importance of skincare for cancer patients, especially those in active treatments such as Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy. Cindy is the owner of The Beauty Retreat and a fully qualified skincare and beauty therapist as well as a specialist Cancer Facial Therapist. She kindly brought along samples of the suitable products and took time to answer our questions.
Lunch came next which was tasty fresh soup, assorted sandwiches and home made cakes. Everyone enjoyed having a relaxed hour to take time to chat and catch up.
Following lunch, Jill Long of the Yorkshire Cancer Patient Forum talked about the forum which is made up of people directly affected by cancer and those working within the cancer services. The aim of the forum is to enable the views and experiences of cancer patients, families and carers to be heard and used to improve the quality of cancer care in our region. There was plenty of opportunity to ask questions and express opinions.
All too soon our treat was over but we all agreed we had a good day. Many thanks go to Cindy and Jill.
Until next time….
